Your community members interact with you through the tipline, and you use a Check workspace to manage the whole process.
Tiplines facilitate automated two-way communication at scale between Check partner organizations and their community members. Check is the overall platform for managing these tiplines and taking in content submitted by community members. Check partner organizations can also transmit content to the platform manually, by RSS, and through the use of APIs and a browser extension. Check also facilitates clustering and matching, and it allows trusted partner organizations to magnify the impact of their respective tiplines by creating shared feeds together.
When your community members send questions or ask for fact-checks on your tiplines, Check’s open-source AI gets down to business. The system works to identify the most relevant content in your workspace and then sends that material to the community member who requested it. Only the articles, explainers, fact-checks, and other media you add to your Check workspace — whether manually or via RSS or API — will be sent back to your community members. Check does not pull from the internet or other sources, and its AI does not rewrite your content.
The data transmitted across tiplines managed by Check belongs solely to the organization operating the tipline and the community members who use that tipline, not Meedan.

Groups that use Check to set up tiplines and connect with their communities do this through what we call a Check workspace. Check workspaces are available in the following languages as of January 2025:
Tiplines allow you to send original newsletters directly to your community members, so long as they’ve opted into receiving them.
For tiplines running on WhatsApp, newsletters are powered by WhatsApp templates, and this feature is only available in certain languages. Take a look at the list of languages supported by WhatsApp. This restriction does not apply to tiplines running on other platforms.
WhatsApp tiplines cannot be deployed in Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, or the three sanctioned regions in Ukraine (Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk). WhatsApp users in these locations are not eligible to receive messages sent via the WhatsApp Business Platform, as per Meta Platforms’ rules. These restrictions don’t apply for tiplines running on other platforms.
Virtual phone numbers are created for WhatsApp tiplines connected to Check. Existing numbers may be used if desired, but there is no need for the number to be connected to a physical device during normal operation, as interactions are managed directly through Check. A SIM card or eSIM only needs to be available to receive a one-time passcode.
